Have you ever tried out Safari? It is Apple’s web browser. Well, Safari 4 Beta was just released the other day and I have been fooling around with it ever since. The first thing that I love about it is how Apple changed the UI to look more like a native Windows application. They could have done better it is a big improvement. Web pages load a hell of a lot faster then in any other browser I have ever used. I am not just saying that ether. It is very fast. The new “Top Sites” feature allows you to view your most visited sites in a PicLens-ish way. Click one and it will fly in and load up the page. I could hardly tell that it loaded it was so fast. You can search through these sites using cover flow as well. I love how this new version works. I think what drives me to say so many good things about it is the new UI. I just can not get over that. It even launches quicker. However, I do think that the new tab placement is a little annoying. But that is just my opinion. I do miss the menu bar a little. But, you can easily add it. Just go to the setting menu at the top right and click “Show Menu Bar.” Quick little tip. Well, it is not really a tip. Unless you are not familiar with Safari. It seems that my blog loaded faster than any other page that I visited. Besides Google of course. That was pretty cool. I just typed in Techy.tk and there it was.
One thing that Safari still needs are add-ons. If anyone is still on FireFox (I am) and have tried out this browser, it is likely because you can not give up the add-ons. Well, there is a cool little site called PimpMySafari.com. They have an assortment of plugins, bookmarklets and a few other things.
I did notice one thing about this new version that I would like to address. If you look at were the tabs are and were some of the menus are, it looks a little like Google Chrome. I am sure they did not copy them but it does look a little fishy. Never the less, I might just use the new version of Safari as my default. I am going to half to think on that though. Are you going to switch? Let me know by E-mailing me at Stephen@techy.tk.
